In Samarkand, the 2023 World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships commenced with a press conference and opening ceremony. Reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen regards himself as a “significant favorite” in blitz, recognizing the potential of many players, including Nodirbek, in rapid chess.
For the first time, Samarkand will host the World Rapid & Blitz Championships. From December 26 to 30, the world’s best chess players will compete for the title of world champions in rapid and blitz. FIDE head Arkady Dvorkovich commented on the choice of Uzbekistan as the venue.
